This week on Limited Resources Marshall and Luis take a dive in to Modern Masters 2017 and give you the lowdown on how to draft this kind of set as well as hit on some of the major archetypes.
Luis’s Steak Recipe:
COOKING A MEDIUM RARE STEAK
Let sit until room temperature
Pat dry with paper towel
Rub steak with olive oil, salt, and pepper
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Heat cast iron pan on high
Sear both sides for a minute (and if thick, the edges as well, for a little less time)
*OPTIONAL* – put pat of butter on each side of the steak
Put in oven until internal temp hits 120-125
Remove, cover with aluminum foil and let sit for 15 minutes
Slice, enjoy, ideally with some roasted veggies

For Steak, I like doing this for at least an hour at 125:

And then finishing on the BBQ.
I havent even downloaded the episode yet. I wholeheartedly agree with the recipe. I want to add If you want to eat better steak, buy better steak. By that I mean track down high quality cuts, Japanese markets have super high quality for fairly reasonable prices. Learn what a good cut of meat looks like, so when they are on sale you can go look at every piece of meat at the store buy the best ones vac pack them and freeze them. IKEA sells good cheap thermometers too, these are a must for the serious cook. Ok now I will actually go listen to the show.
Smoked salt! I forgot use some smoked salt for some neat flavors. I smoke my own but you can find it at the store. Its worth every penny I use it any time I would use salt from coffee, to oats, salad dressings and everything in between.
Your primers on these masters sets are usually fantastic, but this one felt sub par. Disappointed that you didn’t talk about all of the color pairs or the key cards for all of the pairs you did discuss. Also you kept going on about the critical mass synergy strategies when this set doesn’t have one. I appreciate you doing a show, but I hope the next one gives us a bit more
I actually agree 100% on this. I love LRCast, but this episode just didn’t give the details I was expecting. I realize they don’t do a full set review for these sets, but it would be very helpful for newer players that have never played with some of these cards to know any interactions that aren’t necessarily intuitive by looking, and what the key cards are for each synergy. All of that said LRCast is my favorite magic related podcast, and I hope they take this as constructive criticism.
