I definitely share Marshall’s skepticism about this set of cards. There are some that look great, but even with relatively little experience with the game (I started playing at the beginning of Aether Revolt) not much about this set really grabbed me. The tribes seem to have relatively low payoff despite the set being very stay-in-your-lane as far as drafting goes, none of the cards have really grabbed me (whereas Oasis Ritualist and Gusty Dubs had already wowed me by this point with Hour/Amonkhet respectively), and it doesn’t seem to me like there’s a lot of tricky, interesting gameplay to be had. The buildarounds look weak, the removal looks slow, and overall I just haven’t had as much fun playing this set as I have the last few. I’ll temper that by saying I’ve only done one draft and a prerelease sealed pool, but my initial impression of this set has been pretty “meh” despite many players saying it’s great.
You guys are the best. This is my favorite Magic podcast. Please don’t eat on the air. As you were, gentlemen.
