This week on Limited Resources Marshall and Luis discuss how to approach a complex new format like Battle for Zendikar. They also go over a method of grouping cards to help see the new Limited Landscape from a new perspective.

Hi, Love the show. Whereabouts is the column that you mention on the podcast? Where you went through the archetypes in the format? Thanks!
“Knowing is half the battle”…for Zendikar!
There, fixed it for Luis. 😛
Marshall’s sign-off actually trumped LSV’s by a mile for me, oddly enough. LSV clearly off his LR game today. 😛
I’ve been advocating something like this for Cube design for a while. I called them “categories” rather than “buckets”, but the core principle is the same – you have some uber-narrow cards (Ulamog’s Nullifier), a large amount of decent cards that synergise with a couple of archetypes (Benthic Infiltrator, Dominator Drone), and a reasonable number of generic power cards (Grip of Desolation). It works really well, as it turns out, although there’s a big difference in Cube in that the power level of the cards overall tends to be flatter.
