No Scrap Trawler?
Great review, thanks!
But what happened to Scrap Trawler? Why did you skip this one?
Sadly, Yahenni’s Expertise into Yahenni only gives you a 2/2, as the creatures die while Yahenni is still on the stack.
Also, if Exquisite Archangel has lethal damage and you are at 0 or less, you get to choose whether the angel dies or is exiled, and still go back to 20 either way. Not likely to come up, but there are a couple of ways to get the angel back from the graveyard afterwards.
Think bigger. How about casting Dark Intimations off of Rishkar’s Expertise to get back Ajani?
In a way, that’s thinking smaller, because that can be done in a GW deck.
Not sure if it was factored into your rating of Kari Zev, but the monkey is an incredible revolt enabler.
Is LSV okay? He sounded sad hope hes doing alright.
Having played with Archangel, I think you’re significantly undervaluing the exile clause. The format is slow enough that your opponent having to whittle you down from 20 again usually takes some time. Moreover, you’re often pressuring their life total at that point, so they can’t just freely attack because they would lose the race, even if they’re hitting for twice as much a turn. Also, you get the first attack step after the life total reset, which matters for racing purposes. It’s a huge mistake to just read the card as a 5/5 flyer for 7 that says “exile: gain 20 life.”
On the boards where Archangel isn’t good, I don’t really know what card you would rather draw that can save you. Marshall describes a board where you have nothing, are at low life, and your opponent has two big dudes. What would you really rather draw off the top in that board state than Archangel? The card is a straight bomb.
